Throughout society, authority is a cause of rebellion and misunderstanding.
A vicious cycle of endemic aggression, misunderstanding, bitterness—even hatred—seems to plague the most precious relationships that should be our experience (as Christians), as well as our testimony to a world that knows nothing of true love, only the tawdry lust and selfish greed of superficial self-serving relationships.
All relationships, from the home, to the work place, to sports clubs, to social groups, to casual interactions, to the political arena, to large corporations—will have the inevitable tension of who has the final word on any issue. The issue of authority.
Unless there are some rules or principles, often the loudest voice, or the biggest bully, carries the day. Or the domineering boss demands subservient obedience or oppressive sanctions will be applied; the aggressive husband demands the meek submission of his wife and kids or they will be threatened or humiliated; the overbearing sports coach demands the unquestioned acquiescence to unfair demands, or there will be penalties or loss of status.
In Chapter 1, we look at the source of all authority throughout society. We seek to examine the basic authority-submission structures that apply to all these relationships, and look at the definition and explanation of how these operate. Without that, God’s Voice can never be heard, and the disadvantaged and oppressed will become more disadvantaged and oppressed.
We look at God’s established hierarchy for an ordered society, and explore the relationships that are under threat, seeking to isolate the currents at work to try to destabilise these foundational functional structures.
We also explore the principles of authority––and its corollary, submission––to see how this authority is effected.
In Chapter 2, we examine the nature of God and His character. If God’s Voice is to be heard, what voice is that? And what is His character that should be expressed in these structures? How can we identify God’s Voice in different situations if we don’t know Who He is and what He is like?
In Chapter 3, we explore the application of the authority structures––from Chapter 1––and in the midst of these, how does the voice of God become heard? This is further explained in the “Extended information” tab.
